Track Metro’s progress in advancing racial equity in its recruitment, retention and promotion efforts by exploring data on race and gender.

The diversity, equity and inclusion data dashboard provides Metro employees, community partners and the public data to make Metro's efforts to advance racial equity more transparent and easier to track, and thereby provide another way to hold Metro accountable in this work. The information will be updated annually, provide a baseline to measure future diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, highlight related ongoing Metro projects, and inform future policy and actions.

This dashboard presents information related to the recruitment, retention and promotion components of Metro’s racial equity efforts. Data related to the other racial equity areas within Metro’s Strategic plan to advance racial equity, diversity and inclusion is not included.

About the data

This dashboard displays annual data by fiscal year (July 1-June 30 for each year displayed) beginning in 2016 to highlight trends in demographics for Metro’s workforce. The data is updated on an annual basis.
This dashboard presents an average population of each department. This number represents an average of the amount of people in each department during the selected fiscal year.
Metro’s race and ethnicity demographic categories align with the U.S. Census: American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, White or Caucasian, and two or more races.
Unlike the U.S. Census, Metro has combined race and ethnicity together into one demographic question where employees are given the option to select their race or ethnicity. The result of this is that Metro’s data on the racial breakdown of their employees may not be comprehensive because it does not consider employees who have both racial and ethnic identities. Metro is looking into changing the question to allow employees to select more than one option so that employees can list both their race and ethnicity for a more accurate representation in the data.
Until 2019, Metro collected only male and female gender identity data for its workforce. In 2020, Metro added unspecified gender identity to its data collection for greater representation.
