Portland pedals to another successful 2012 Bike Commute Challenge

Portland area resident’s dedication to being America’s No. 1 bike city shined in September as they logged more than 1.25 million miles in the 2012 Bike Commute Challenge. During the month, 11,745 cyclists from 1,395 teams logged their trips to and from work during the challenge; a friendly competition between work sites to encourage people to bike to work.

Make this month Walktober with the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition

It’s Walktober! Spearheaded by the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition and sponsored in part by Metro, this three-week celebration through the end of October encourages discovering your surroundings on foot.

JPACT will focus on jobs for additional $38 million in transportation funds

The formula, approved by the Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation in September, set aside $37.8 million from 2016-18 for transportation projects that meet specific criteria as part of a so-called Regional Economic Opportunity Fund.

Transportation committee to refine priorities for flexible fund program

The Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation is narrowing its priorities as it heads toward a final decision in November on how to spend the $37 million, part of a package of $98 million expected to be invested in three years, 2016-18.

A bill, proposed by the alliance and Metro, would require the state to offer loans to local governments to prep industrial sites. The loans would be written off if a major employer, meeting certain criteria, sets up shop at the site.

Residents interested in the Southwest Corridor Plan are invited to a community planning forum on Oct. 9 for a preliminary look at a narrowed list of projects being considered for the corridor area between Sherwood and Portland.

Sun sets on a summer of free ¡Vámonos! events

Metro and community partners hosted more than a dozen ¡Vámonos! events in Washington County this spring and summer, engaging over 1,500 walkers and riders. The events highlighted the easy, family-friendly routes to explore by foot and by bike featured on the ¡Vámonos! maps.

Metro seeks applicants for four community member seats on influential transportation committee

Metro’s Transportation Policy Alternatives Committee, or TPAC, is seeking volunteers interested in transportation issues to serve on the panel starting January 2013. There are four community-member positions up for appointment.
