Metro works with communities, businesses and residents across greater Portland to chart a wise course for the future while protecting the things we love about this place. A key component to good decisions is the participation of residents contributing diverse perspectives on its advisory committees. Three committees are seeking applications for new members:
- Transportation Policy Advisory Committee
- Public Engagement Review Committee
- Parks and Nature Equity Advisory Committee
Transportation Policy Alternatives Committee
The Transportation Policy Alternatives Committee, or TPAC, advises local and regional leaders on transportation investment priorities and policies related to transportation, such as efforts to create communities with easy access to public transit, provide safe options to get around and help the economy by creating smooth freight movement through the region.
TPAC comprises 15 transportation professionals – appointed by area cities, counties and government agencies – and six community members. The committee meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon on the first Friday of each month, though additional meetings are sometimes called. Metro is recruiting for three community positions with two-year terms.
This year, Metro especially seeks applicants from east Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties who can bring expertise in the following areas as they relate to transportation planning:
- the needs of underrepresented residents such as people of color, people with low income, people with disabilities, seniors and youth
- health and safety issues
- technological advancements and opportunities in transportation projects.

The committee meets four times a year and serves as a key component of Metro’s ongoing efforts to develop and implement successful public engagement processes. Metro is recruiting for two community positions and one position representing a community based organization with three-year terms.
In selecting Public Engagement Review Committee members, the Metro Council seeks a mix of representatives who demonstrate:
- a commitment to community involvement
- skills, knowledge or experience that support the public engagement principles adopted by Metro

Metro seeks a mix of representatives who have long-term connections to local communities of color, an interest in connecting their communities to nature and a commitment to environmental, economic and cultural equity.
