If you want to help engage residents on topics from transportation to parks or determine which community nature projects receive support, this is your chance. Metro is seeking volunteers to serve on the new Public Engagement Review Committee and the Nature in Neighborhoods Capital Grants Review committee.
The Public Engagement Review Committee will meet twice a year and serve as a key component of Metro’s ongoing efforts to develop and implement successful public engagement processes. In selecting Public Engagement Review Committee members, the Metro Council seeks a mix of representatives who demonstrate:
- A commitment to community involvement,
- Skills, knowledge or experience that support the public engagement principles adopted by Metro, and,
- An ability to represent the geographic and demographic diversity of the region.
The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24.
The Nature in Neighborhoods capital grants program uses funding from the 2006 natural areas bond measure to help nature thrive in neighborhoods and the built environment. The grant review committee develops funding recommendations annually and provides feedback about ways to strengthen the grant program. The Metro Council is seeking three at-large community members with a background in neighborhoods, nonprofits, parks, design, development or business who demonstrate:
- Experience reviewing proposals and offering suggestions on ways to strengthen projects,
- Experience with projects that involve a wide range of partners and funding, and,
- An appreciation of the challenges and benefits of engaging diverse community groups.
The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Sept. 7, 2012.
