Metro has begun discussions with CourseCo, a leading West Coast golf course operator, to negotiate a contract to manage the regionally-owned Glendoveer Golf Course and Tennis Center.
The negotiations, which could take several weeks, resulted from recommendations from a citizen review panel, interviews with Metro staff and a review of a detailed business plan.
An independent citizen review panel made up of neighbors, golfers, tennis players and fitness trail users reviewed proposals to operate Glendoveer and selected four firms to move forward in the selection process.
The decision to negotiate with CourseCo was based on its submission of a detailed business plan, a forecast for projected revenues and expenses and an interview with Metro staff. Panel members also attended the interviews and provided feedback.
Metro will take a more active management role with the new contract to make sure the golf and tennis operations provide excellent customer service and meet the needs of the community.
After listening to feedback at an open house and council meeting last year, the Metro Council confirmed that:
- the 242-acre site would continue to offer two golf courses, a driving range, pro shop, tennis center and fitness trail;
- Metro would focus on improving the property and developing a business plan to best meet the needs of the community and responsibly manage the property;
- the public needed to be involved in selecting the next operations contract.
A town hall style meeting was held in March 2012 to discuss the future of Glendoveer and talk about improvements and maintenance issues at the property. Survey results from the Opt In community helped Metro develop priorities for the new contract.
