Four hundred of the fastest high school runners in the country will converge at Metro’s Glendoveer Golf and Tennis Center Dec. 6 to compete in the 11th Annual Nike Cross Nationals.
The runners will vie to be national champion on a 5K course that traverses pristine, tree-lined fairways and rolling terrain.
“This is a wonderful event for Glendoveer but also the neighborhood surrounding the site and the east part of the metro region,” said Metro Councilor Shirley Craddick, whose district includes Glendoveer. “We are very proud to host this championship."
The course at Glendoveer will offer spectators great viewing options, whether they want to follow the race around the course or sit in the grandstands near the finish line.
For those unable to attend, a live webcast of the event will run on nikecrossnationals.com.
“We are committed to being more than just a golf course,” said Martha Bennett, the chief operating officer of Metro. “This event will have a positive economic impact for the region, provide activity at the site during a slower time of year and will hopefully be the beginning of a lasting partnership.
Metro, the regional government agency, owns the 231-acre Glendoveer. The site includes a 36-hole daily fee golf facility with four indoor tennis courts, an 18-hole foot golf course, and a covered, heated and lit driving range.
Glendoveer has a fully stocked golf and tennis pro shop in the clubhouse along with an outdoor patio and seating area. Professional staff also offer tennis and golf lessons.
The popular Ringside Steakhouse Eastside is also at Glendoveer.
