At a time when the region and the country is scanning the horizon for sparks of economic recovery, the International Council of Shopping Centers is ready to ignite some optimism for public and private stakeholders in the region's recovery.
On Thursday, March 3, the ICSC Oregon Alliance, in cooperation with Metro, is holding a roundtable discussion with officials from Beaverton, Gresham, Hillsboro, Oregon City, Portland and Vancouver to share their strategies for encouraging quality retail development. "A collaborative approach to igniting retail development" is an open discussion between local governments taking a proactive approach to inspiring and producing developable, leasable and successful retail outlets.
A Metro staff member from the transit-oriented development program will be available to discuss the benefits of retail located in compact, walkable neighborhoods close to transit stations and to provide successful examples of TOD mixed-use projects. Attendees anticipated include economic development directors, planners, local electeds, retail brokers, retailers, lawyers and architects.
Transit-oriented development helps support the region's six desired outcomes by creating vibrant communities and safe and reliable transportation choices that enhance the quality of life for residents of the region.
