Columbia River boaters won't be able to use the M. James Gleason Memorial Boat Ramp until spring because of a repaving project, located on Marine Drive at NE 43rd Avenue.
The project, which starts Jan. 14, will improve parking, create on-site stormwater treatment and add permanent restrooms. The construction was timed to take place during the slow boating season to avoid hurting the salmon that migrate in early fall and spring.
During construction, boat launch and parking are available at Metro’s Chinook Landing Marine Park, at 22300 NE Marine Drive, across from Blue Lake Regional Park.
Funding for this project comes from Metro who received a substantial grant from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon State Marine Board.
The Gleason boat ramp is one of three public boating facilities operated by Metro. Its amenities include a debris deflection wall, extra launch lanes, boarding docks, river maps, a river patrol office and a credit card fee payment station. Bring your annual pass for free, unlimited visits to the boat ramp or pay $5 per car or $7 per bus. The fee station takes MasterCard or Visa only; cash and checks are not accepted.
