Paul Slyman, Metro parks and environmental services director, on the tragic death Wednesday of Aaron Peters, 13, of Port Angeles, Wash.:
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Aaron Peters during this difficult time.
Around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, visitors reported to staff at Oxbow Regional Park that Aaron was missing in the Sandy River. We immediately contacted authorities and assisted in the search effort.
Safety is our top priority at Metro. Although the weather is getting hot, please keep in mind that the water remains cold and currents can be swift.
Thank you to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and the Gresham Fire Department for their quick response and hard work.
