Metro is working with Knot Studio to create three designs for the nature park, which you’ll get a chance to look over and comment on this fall. The designers were at the workshops, some of them sitting at tables and in virtual rooms talking directly with community members. They have also closely studied all of the survey responses.
Now they are taking all of the input from community members and mixing it with all of the technical knowledge they have about Willamette Cove, including important collaboration with our clean up partners, and the rules and regulations governing parks. With that combination of information, they are creating designs that can meet the vision laid out by community members while fitting within the constraints and rules of the site.
In their report on the community engagement findings, the designers said this:
“Firstly, the community and Indigenous partners’ emphasis on habitat restoration as a central part of this project has informed our approach to the development of the three alternatives. The order of development followed this priority, of designing habitat features first, then points of access, then the trail alignment, water access (comfort amenities, beaches, non-motorized boat access, and swimming areas), comfort amenities (restrooms, covered areas), and lastly nature-based education, ceremony, and gathering areas as the community communicated these priorities.”
